Market Watch by Pat

The grain market seems to remain in a trading range that has been set. We are still ahead of last year's market--corn +.48 and beans +1.44. Part of this is a difference in basis levels; we are 27 cents firmer on corn and only a nickel on beans. We still show very little carry on the board. Latest news is hot & dry in Brazil; supportive for beans, originally they increased yield by 11.7%. Now they are decreasing that by 5%. Cold weather should mean more usage for feed.

With the carry we have in the market, maybe you should consider pricing part of your grain and investing to draw interest. Or a basis contract is another option; after the contract is delivered you can receive an 80% advance. This could be better than considering the loan program--no interest and no worry of damage or insects in the grain.

We will be glad to watch any offers for you, just give us a call!

New Seed Company!

Order seed now for best discounts and hybrid availability!

We have recently added Garst to our seed sales repertoire. They offer many fine products that may be of interest to you. This means we now carry Asgrow/DeKalb, Garst, Mycogen and Syngenta seed. These are four very good seed companies that offer a great line-up of products.

With four seed companies behind us, we should be able to fit all of your corn and soybean seed requirements. The choice is up to you.

If you are interested in hearing more about Garst, or would like some help making choices for next year’s seed, please call Louie.

Harvest Recap

Whew! We made it!

We were open daily for the longest consecutive harvest season in our history this year! How many days? Can you even guess? 62 consecutive days! Even with the smaller yields, we had more trucks and bushels than in the past.

The new wet tank helped move trucks in and out at a much quicker and smoother pace. The larger wet holding capacity kept us from filling up early in the day.

We appreciate all of your grain business in the past year and hope to see you in the new season. Remember we are hopefully going to be competitive year-round in grain merchandising. Don’t hesitate to call us with your offers.

Updated Pit Hours

We will be open to accept grain from 7:00 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday (except holidays). The office will be open regular hours (7-4). We need to be able to close the mill early to empty the pits to get employees home on time to be with their families. They deserve this time off for the great job they do during the harvest season.
